About

Welcome to Intangibles Film! This site serves as a hub for my film reviews, critical essays, dialogues, and whatever else I think might be worth writing down.

Here’s a quick explainer on my grading process (alongside some examples from 2019):

A+ means that a movie is sublime, approaching perfection. (“A Hidden Life”)
A means that a movie is among a given year’s best. (“The Farewell”)
A- means that a movie is excellent, with few reservations. (“Pain and Glory”)
B+ means that, despite issues, a movie is very good. (“Missing Link”)
B means that a movie’s strengths soundly outweigh its drawbacks. (“Ready or Not”)
B-
means that a movie is still worth seeing if it’s up your alley. (“Ford v Ferrari”)
C+ means that a movie falls just outside recommendable. (“The Hole in the Ground”)
C means that I was either apathetic or heavily conflicted. (“Climax”)
C- means that a movie tries really hard but might as well not have. (“Joker”)
D+ means I may have fallen asleep. (“Alita: Battle Angel”)
D means that a movie just flat-out doesn’t work. (“Jojo Rabbit”)
D- means “You saw that movie? After I specifically asked you not to?” (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters”)
F means that a movie is catastrophically—maybe offensively—bad. (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”)

As always, thanks for reading. If you have any thoughts on what I’m doing here, reach out and let me know!
